The Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) have been exchanging artillery fire in the Muttur area, south of Trincomalee, for the second day, residents said today. The shelling is reported to be occurring in Kaddaiparichchan.
The shelling began on Wednesday around noon when a group of SLA soldiers clashed with a group of LTTE fighters. People living at Palanagar, a village situated close to a SLA camp, shifted their families to Neithal Nagar a village far from the fighting.
Today people living at Amman Nagar, south of the SLA camp also shifted their families to Ganeshapuram, east of Kaddaiparichchan, residents said.
