SLA launches operation towards Vetrilaikerni

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) began a two pronged operation towards Vetrilaikerni on Jaffna's south-eastern coast from the early hours of the morning today said security sources in the north.

The sources said the operation is aimed at attacking the positions of the Liberation Tigers on the coast.

SLA units moved out from their defence lines from Thalaiyadi, north of Vettrilaikerni the sources said.

Another contingent of SLA troops are moving by the Elephant Pass lagoon towards the Chundikulam estuary according to an unconfirmed report.

The Liberation Tigers holding a beach head in the Vettrilaikerni-Kaddaikadu coast are counter attacking sources said.
