Air-raid in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Air Force Kfir jets conducted air-raid in Pooneryn-Kerathivu area in the north of the island from 9 a.m. this morning. The air-raid continued for about 30 minutes sources in Jaffna said.

Meanwhile the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lanka Army exchanged artillery and mortar fire in the Elephant Pass area, in the early hours today the sources added.

Further details were not known.

Elsewhere in the north, the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops conducted a cordon and search operation in Puloly in the Vadamaradchi Division of the Jaffna peninsula yesterday, said sources.

Over one hundred young men and women were herded to a public place and interrogated in front of masked spotters the sources said.

Two youths identified as Kandasamy Matharuban,18, of Chempiyanpattu, and Kandasamy Ravikumar,20, of Vatharaayan South in Thaalayadi, were detained for further interrogation. They were taken to Pt.Pedro SLA camp and released around 8 p.m. in the evening the sources added.
