Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) officer wounded in Batticaloa, Youth commits suicide in Jaffna town.

CSU officer wounded

A Sub Inspector of Police from the Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) was shot and seriously wounded by unidentified gunmen at Maamankam, 3 km. north of Batticaloa, around 7 p.m. this evening.

The Sub Inspector, K.Lakshman, was shot at about 200 metres from a police post.

He was admitted at the Batticaloa Hospital, sources said.


Youth commits suicide in Jaffna town

A youth committed suicide by exploding a grenade when Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers surrounded a house at Seenivasagam Road, Koddady in Jaffna town this evening, police said.

Two others escaped from the house. Two inmates of the house were taken in for questioning by the SLA, police added.
