Emergency Regulations extended

The Sri Lankan Parliament extended today the Emergency Regulations for one further month. One hundred and nine parliamentarians voted for the motion on extension of the emergency regulations while 84 voted against it.

The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) voted for the extension along with the ruling People's Alliance (PA).

The United National Party (UNP), the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) voted against the motion.

Two PLOTE parliamentarians and 25 UNP parliamentarians, including the five dissident MPs were not present in the house.
