Hunger striker admitted to hospital

Upali Somapala (30), one of the 15 POWs who are on a hunger strike since 10 February, was admitted to Puthukudiyiruppu hospital today, said the Voice of Tigers VoT) radio in its night news broadcast.

He collapsed around 5 p.m. today. The medical delegate of the ICRC in Puthukudiyiruppu and the medical team of the LTTE attended the POW and admitted him to Puthukudiyiruppu hospital.

Somapala's mother who was there at the time of the incident also fainted in shock and was treated by the medical team, the radio said.

According to the VoT another POW, Nimal Nishantha, has developed breathing difficulties. The radio said that the hunger strike continues.
