The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and the Liberation Tigers were engaged in a sea battle in the seas off Pulmoodai, about 45 km. north of Trincomalee, in the early hours of the morning today, naval sources said.

SLN sources said that it's Dvora gun boat had observed 4 sea Tiger boats speeding towards Mullaithivu from Thiriyai around midnight and engaged them in a sea battle for nearly tow and a half hours.

In the ensuing fierce fighting two LTTE boats were destroyed and the other two were damaged. The Tigers however managed to escape to Mullaithivu, SLN sources said.

A Dvora Fast Attack Craft was slightly damaged in the sea battle, the sources said.
