SLA intelligence unit worker shot

A person working with the Sri Lanka army's military intelligence unit in Batticaloa was shot this morning around 7 a.m. by an unidentified gunman, suspected to be a member of the Liberation Tigers, in the heart of the eastern town Police sources said.

The man succumbed to his wounds an hour later at the Batticaloa hospital.

The operative, identified as Kanapathipillai Nanthakumar, 24, was on his way to work when he was shot they said.

He was from Kallady, a suburb on the southern outskirts of the town.

Nanthakumar was going on his bicycle with another person when he was fired at Police said. The other person on the bicycle escaped unhurt.
