Bomb detected in Colombo bound train

A powerful parcel bomb was detected in the Colombo bound night mail train from Vavuniya just before it was scheduled to leave the station yesterday, said sources. The bomb was removed from the compartment and was diffused opposite the Railway station by the SLA bomb disposal team.

The night mail train which leaves for Colombo from Vavuniya at 9.30 p.m. is usually checked by the SLA before the passengers board the train.

Railway Officials said that the parcel bomb was detected by the SLA during their routine checking.

Additional troops were rushed to the railway station and a thorough checking was carried out by the SLA.
