They said no one was injured in the blast, believed to have been caused by a hand grenade.

Some glass windows were shattered due to the blast the sources said.

Norway has come under strong criticism from Sinhala nationalist organizations opposed to the Scandinavian country's efforts to bring about peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers. There were violent demonstrations outside the embassy last month at which the Norwegian flag was burnt.

A senior Norwegian delegation left Colombo today, following a three day visit to Sri Lanka in connection with the peace effort, government officials said.
