Five Sri Lanka Army soldiers were wounded in Mannar town Monday when a grenade was lobbed at them during a search operation in the suburb of Emil Nagar around 6.45 p.m. The condition of two soldiers is serious, Mannar Police sources said.
SLA troops had gone to conduct a cordon and search operation in Emil Nagar in Mannar town on the road to Thalvupaadu upon receipt of information that some Liberation Tigers were in that area late Monday afternoon.
Unknown persons, suspected to be Liberation Tigers, had lobbed a grenade at a group of soldiers who were engaged in the search in Emil Nagar. By the time more troops were rushed to round up the area, the attackers had got away, Mannar Police said.
Three youth in the suburb have been taken into custody on suspicion according to the Police.
