23 soldiers killed in LTTE ambush

Twenty-three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers, including 2 officers were killed and another wounded when the Liberation Tigers ambushed a military vehicle near Wilgampura, 11 km. northeast of Trincomalee town, around 3.30 p.m.Tuesday, security sources said.

The Liberation Tigers attacked the SLA truck with rocket propelled grenades and small arms, after setting off a claymore mine, the sources said.

The soldiers were travelling to Morawewa area from Plantain Point army camp, the sources said.

The bodies of the dead soldiers were handed over to the Trincomalee base hospital. The wounded soldiers were also admitted to the hospital.
