Police discover hand bombs in Wellawatte

Sri Lanka Police discovered and diffused four hand bombs hidden buried in an unused landsite in W De Silva Mawatte, Wellawatte today morning, sources in Colombo said.
The bombs were located following a tip to the Wellawatte Police, a police spokesperson said. Special bomb squad personnel were then brought in to diffuse the hand bombs.
Wellawatte Police Chief Nihal Mendis said that two of the hand bombs recovered were of the type currently used by Sri Lanka security forces and the other two were of a new type. He added that only the LTTE could have been able to obtain the new types of hand bombs and that investigations are continuing.
