Tamil political prisoner murdered

A Tamil political prisoner held at Kalutara prison was found stabbed to death on Thursday morning local police said. His body was found in a section of the prison where nearly 600 Tamil political detainees are held.

His body was found in a section of the prison where nearly 600 Tamil political detainees are held. The murdered detainee was identified as S.Nithiyathas, 30 of Trincomalee. A prison official said this section of the prison was closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening, and the body was found when they went in to that section Thursday morning. Kalutara police are conducting further investigations into the murder.
