Three die due to drug shortage

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 31 December 1997, 23:59 GMT]
Three members of a family died in the course of twelve days recently in the Vanni due to a severe shortage of medicines in the region.

They were identified as Kalithasan, a nine month old infant, M. Sangarapillai, 48 and Mariaal, 75. They had died of diarrhoea and Malaria in the village of Perangandal in Thunukkai.

Sources attributed the deaths to scarcity of drugs brought about in the Vanni by the government's ban on medical supplies to the region.
