Four LTTE boats sunk - Navy

Gunboats of the Sri Lanka Navy intercepted and attacked a Sea Tiger supply convoy of the Mullaitivu coast Friday morning and a fierce battle ensued in which four LTTE boats were sunk, military officials said.

Sri Lankan military official said Air Force jets were called in to support the navyís Israeli- built Dvora gunboats. Some of the LTTE boats escaped, the officials said.

The LTTE has not commented on the incident.

Meanwhile the Thamileela Vaanoli, the commercial broadcast of the Liberation Tigers said that people from several villages on the Mullaithivu coast sought refuge in schools and under trees due to heavy bombing by Sri Lanka Air Force jets Friday morning from 7.15 a.m. to 9 a.m.
