SLAF Helicopter damaged

An airforce Mi-17 helicopter was heavily damaged by LTTE fire while it was attempting to land at the Olumadu SLA camp around 2.30 this afternoon. Seven soldiers in the helicopter were wounded, according to intial unconfirmed reports from Vavuniya.

They also said that the helicopter was beyond repair.

The Russian-built MI-17 transport helicopter had flown in to evacuate the soldiers wounded in yesterday artillery attack on the Olumadu camp by the LTTE said sources in Vavuniya.
