Two policemen wounded in Batticaloa

Unidentified armedmen on motorcycle shot and wounded a policeman in the Batticaloa town around 7.45 a.m. Saturday morning, local police sources said. The incident took place near Gnanasooriyam Square.

The policeman, identified as Aarmukam Rasanayakam, was on his way to duty at a sentry post on Loyds Avenue. He was admitted at the Batticaloa teaching hospital.

Also on Friday, a policeman was wounded when armedmen believed to be members of the Liberation Tigers opened fire at Kallaru sentry post on the Batticaloa-Kalmunai road. The attack took place around 9.50 p.m. Friday.

The wounded policeman, K.Dissanayake,22, was admitted at the Ampara hospital.
