The people of Orr's Hill, a suburb in Trincomalee town nabbed a soldier of the Sri Lanka Army Monday evening around 4.45 when he allegedly attempted to molest a seven year old Tamil girl. The other two soldiers of the SLA who accompanied the suspect fled from the scene when the people of the area came to the rescue of the victim hearing her cries. The angry crowd later had tied the suspect soldier to a tree and sent word to the Trincomalee Police.

The girl was admitted in Trincomalee base hospital with abrasions on her body, medical sources said.

Civilian sources said that a group of soldiers of the army camp near Plantain Point, Orr's Hill had forcibly taken the victim to a Vairavar temple in the area and attempted to molest her. She, however, had cried out for help and people nearby rushed to the scene and rescued her. They later nabbed one the soldiers who had attempted molested her.

The Trincomalee Police rushed to scene and took the suspect soldier into custody.

Police sources said the suspect was under the influence of liquor.
