SLA armoury on fire

Fire broke out in the armoury of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) at Kankesanthurai in the northern Jaffna peninsula 4.45 a.m, Friday morning, army sources in Colombo said.

Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne, media spokesman of the SLA said the ammunition dump contained large quantity of explosives, T 56 guns, artillery shells and anti tank mines.

Residents of the area said they heard several huge explosions from the armoury, which is located east of Kankesanthurai town.

The cause for the fire was not known.
