The hill country Tamil political leaders have been invited by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for talks on the peace process. The talks will be held on April 14 in the northern Vanni region, political sources said.

The invitations sent by the Leader of the LTTE Mr. Vellupillai Pirapaharan were handed over to Mr.Arumugam Thondaman, leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and Mr. Periyasamy Chandrasekaran, leader of the Upcountry People's Front (UPF) by the Norwegian Ambassador in Colombo Mr. Jon Westborg Monday, the sources said.

The CWC and UPF are constituents of the United National Front (UNF) government. Mr.Arumugam Thondaman and Mr.Periayasamy Chandrasekaran hold ministerial portfolios in the UNF government.

Mr.Thondaman has summoned the executive committee of the CWC, provincial councilors, members of local government institutions and district organisers of his party for a conference on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at his ministry office to discuss about the invitation sent by the LTTE leader.

The LTTE has already invited TNA parliamentarians and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Mr.Rauff Hakeem for talks on April 12 and 13 respectively.
