The New Democratic Front Wednesday appealed to the United National Front government to lift the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and hand over the administration of the interim administration of the northeast province to a council headed by the LTTE.
Addressing the Front's May Day rally in Colombo Dr.Wickremabahu Karunaratne, the leader of the NDF, said that the Tamils have a right to claim the northeast province as their traditional homeland.
He added that his party would support the peace process initiated with Norwegian facilitation.
However, the NDF would oppose the capitalist policies of the UNF government, which would suppress the rights of the working class, Dr. Karunaratne said.
