The Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) held its first election meeting at Kailaasapillaiyar Kovil near the Jaffna town today. TELO leader and Mayoral candidate for the Jaffna municipal council M. K Sivajilingam addressed the meeting.
He told the small audience which was standing scattered at a distance, that his organisation had decided to hold its inaugural campaign meeting at this venue because the Federal Party had begun its political career here and because this area had been the capital of the Jaffna kingdom.
He called on the government to hold unconditional talks with the LTTE and said that there should be a ceasefire immediately.
Sivajilingam asserted that his group was contesting the local polls in Jaffna to draw attention to these issues.
