Displaced protest security zone[TamilNet, Wednesday, 07 August 2002, 19:55 GMT]More than five hundred displaced people staged a token sit in protest Wednesday in front of the Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretariat (DS) demanding that they should be allowed to resettle in their villages - Eluthumadduval, Mirusuvil and Karampagam - in the Thenmaradchi area. The DS office did not function because of the picketing. The Sri Lanka Army claims that these villages come under a high security zone, barring people from returning. The Eluthumadduval Welfare Organisation which organized Wednesday token protest said it would launch a continuous picketing in front of the Chavakachcheri DS office after a period of one month if the authorities failed to address their demand.
