[TamilNet, Saturday, 24 August 2002, 20:28 GMT]
Sri Lanka's Law Minister has instructed the Attorney General to expedite all cases against the suspects who have been held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) with only their confessions as evidence against them. "It is better for the Attorney General to represent the people instead of the State," said Mr.W.J.M.Lokkubandara in his instruction to the AG's department.

"The delay in the Attorney General department has caused immense suffering and misery to those held under detention without any evidence," said Minister of Justice. Mr.W.J.M.Lokkubandara.

Minister Mr.Lokkubandara said that the AG department has failed to release those suspects who have not committed any crimes even after such names had been furnished.
