The Criminal Investigation Department officials Wednesday night searched several safety deposit boxes in a leading private bank in Colombo and found cash around five million rupees and several secret documents. CID officials said Thursday that the said safety deposit boxes belong to the former Deputy Defence Minister General Anurudhha Ratwatte and his wife.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Wednesday issued search warrant in this regard on an application made by CID officials. The CID officials had informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate about the search conducted Wednesday night.

CID officials said Wednesday that the safety deposit boxes, which have not been searched last night, were to be searched Thursday.

General Ratwatte and his two Chanuka and Lohan have been on bail in connection with the Udathalawinne massacre of ten Muslim youths during December general election last Year. They have been indicted in the Colombo High Court along with several others who are on remand in this case.
