The girl, identified as Kanapathy Yaalini, 17, was picked by the SLA from the nearby Maamaduwa camp on a tip off that she had been a member of the Liberation Tigers before her family was displaced from Poovarasankulam, west of Vavuniya.

She was held in the camp overnight and had been beaten up by female soldiers there during interrogation said sources in Vavuniya.

After releasing her yesterday, the Maamaduwa army took her brother into custody.
