The Attorney General has transferred about 150 cases filed in the Colombo High Court (HC) under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to a special court.
The special High Court has been set up in Welikada jail to expedite the disposal of cases filed under the PTA.
Hundreds of Tamil youths arrested under the PTA languish in Kalutara and Welikada jails for several years without being brought to trial, human rights activists said.
The Chief Justice Mr.Sarath N.Silva said PTA cases, which were less than half complete, have been transferred to the special High Court. Mr.K.T.Chitrasiri has been appointed Judge of the special High Court.
