EPDP preparing for massive rigging

[TamilNet, Saturday, 24 January 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The EPRLF accused the EPDP today of setting the stage for a major rigging operation in the Jaffna local polls by collecting the polling cards of persons in the Gurunagar area who are either dead or are resident abroad.

The EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran told the TamilNet correspondent who met him today in his office, that the EPDP is systematically collecting the polling cards before they are returned as undeliverable by the local post office.

The polling cards collected thus can help the EPDP to send false voters to the polling booths with forged national identity cards to cast a large number of fraudulent votes, said the EPRLF leader.

He said that he could prove his case with specific instances.
