Police given deadline

Colombo high court judge N.Ramachandran directed the Sri Lankan Police yesterday to produce LTTE leader Velupillai Pirabakaran, his intelligence chief Pottu Amman and eight others in courts on February 27, 1998 in connection with the Central Bank bomb blast on January 31, 1996.
The High court also issued a warrant of arrest on Mr. V. Pirabakaran and others on an indictment filed by Sri Lanka's Attorney General.
They have been charged on fiteen counts including damage and destruction caused to the Central Bank.
Sri Lankan Police have blamed Liberation Tigers for the truck bomb which destroyed the Central Bank in Colombo, killing 91 persons and wounding many more in January last year.
