SLN stops food delivery to Deft protesters

[TamilNet, Saturday, 23 November 2002, 15:24 GMT]
Student supporters lead by a University lecturer carrying supplies of food and drinks to the protesters in Nedunthivu (Delft) island were prevented from travelling to Delft by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) personnel, sources in Jaffna said.

Jaffna Student's Union has been organizing to collect rations to help ease the severe shortage of food for protesters who have been staging protests for the last seven days calling for the Eelam People Democratic Party (EPDP) cadres to vacate the island.

Sources say, that students who were stopped had argued with the SLN personnel had to return with the items they were carrying. "We are determined to try all means possible to ensure food items reach the protesters," the lecturer leading the delivery effort said.
