Pooneryn suffers from floods

Recent torrential rain in the Vanni area has inundated Nallur, Mutkomban, Mission Settlement, and Neradamban villages in the Pooneryn district with flood waters forcing 516 families to seek shelters in public buildings, sources in Pooneryn said.

798 people from 224 families are housed in Samipulum Tamil Co-education School and 536 refugees from 134 families have sought shelter in Mutkomban Public School, officials said.

Pooneryn district Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) is providing relief supplies to the flood victims.

Sources also said that several houses in Pallikuda, Chettiar Kurichi, Gnani Madam, Kauthari Munai, Aalankerni, Kollar Kurichi, Mattuvil East, West Grama Sevaka divisions have been badly damaged by flood.
