Names, address and other personal details of employees of business establishments in Vavuniya are being collected by police stations in Vavuniya district, alarmed traders in Vavuniya said. Police officers have distributed forms to businesses and have directed all employees to submit completed forms back to the police stations.
This police action has shocked the business community in Vavuniya who are questioning the need for such information when there is a relative climate of peace and when security restrictions are being relaxed.
Traders have complained to their local parliamentarians to take urgent action to raise the issue with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr.T.E. Anandarajah, sources in Vavuniya said.
