Four persons were killed when the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) threw a grenade into an underground bunker in an abandoned house near the Nandavil Amman Kovil in Kokkuvil in Jaffna, around 8.35 a.m. this morning.
However, the SLA claimed that the four were armed members of the Liberation Tigers and that they had committed suicide by exploding their own grenade.
The bodies were handed over by the SLA to the Jaffna hospital this afternoon at 4.00 p.m. SLA sources in Jaffna said that its troops had found the underground bunker on precise information received by it from some civilians in the area pinpointing the exact location of the hideout.
