Unimpeded travel access authorized to South-bound lorries

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) checkpoint at Iratperiyakulam. 6 km south of Vavuniya town on highway A9, will be open 24 hours allowing lorries transporting goods to towns in the South from Vavuniya unimpeded travel facilities, said Major General Susil Chandrapala, Wednesday, in a meeting organized by Police for the traders and businessmen from Vavuniya, sources said.

The checkpoint which used to close at 5 pm for the last several years, extended its opening hours to 8 pm recently.

When the President of Vavuniya Traders Union, P.S.Abdullah, made a request for extended opening hours of the Iratperiyakulam checkpoint, Major General Chandrapala informed of his decision to open the checkpoint 24-hours.
