Soldier on leave arrested with explosives in Jaffna

A soldier of the Sri Lanka Army was caught Saturday by air
force personnel at the main Palaly military base in the Jaffna district when he was
allegedly taking explosives to his home in the south, security sources said.
The Mallakam Magistrate, Ms Sarojini Ilangovan, Monday remanded the suspect
soldier, S.M.Samanakumara, of Badulla till April 4, legal sources said.
The Police Monday produced the two hand grenades, several cartridges and some explosives recovered from the suspect at the Magistrate’s court. However, the Magistrate ordered the Police to keep those recovered explosives at the Kankesanthurai Police in safe custody, sources said.
