SLA thrust repulsed - Radio

[TamilNet, Friday, 06 February 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The Voice of Tigers said this morning that fierce fighting broke out north of Kilinochchi town when the Sri Lankan army tried to advance from the Karadippokku junction yesterday.

The radio said that the army had to withdraw back to its positions after the LTTE damaged a tank and a buffle armoured personnel carrier.

Meanwhile army sources in the north said that plans are underway to launch a fresh thrust towards Kilinochchi south.

They acknowledged that the LTTE's resistance was quite heavy yesterday but declined to give details of damages sustained by the army.
