The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp in Karuthappalam in Chenkaladi-Badulla road in
Batticaloa district is hurriedly being reinforced causing concern among
residents living close to the camps, sources said.
Absorption of closeby lands and coconut estates as part of the camp premises
has further alarmed the local residents.
Residents of Karuthappalam said that the camp has recently expanded include
some of the pasture land used for cattle gracing.
Residents also complained that large bull-dozers are being deployed to build
bunds and bunkers around the expanded perimeters of the camp.
Devotees are increasingly scared to attend prayers at a hindu temple that
lies close to the SLA camp.
