In Commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relationships between Sri Lanka and Canada, the Canadian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Ms. Valerie Raymond, arrived in Trincomalee Monday, beginning a six-day tour of the Eastern province, sources said.
During her tour, she is to pay a two-day visit to areas in Trincomalee, a two-day visit to the Batticaloa district and one day to the Ampara district, Head of the Political and
Economic Section of the Canadian High Commission in Colombo, Mr. Paul Gareau, said.
Mr. Gareau said the High Commissioner would meet civilian leaders in the Eastern districts during her tour. Canada opened its high commission in Sri Lanka fifty years ago, he said.
At the start of her visit, Ms. Raymond first visited the Trincomalee campus of the Eastern University, which is located in the Batticaloa district. She donated a set
of Canadian encyclopedia to the campus library. Rector of the
campus, Dr.T. Jeyasingham, accepted the donation, sources said.
