Security strengthened in Batticaloa following killing

Following the shooting death of Kumaraperumal Perinpam (38), alias 'Master,' a former member of Peoples Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), by unidentified gunman in Batticaloa Wednesday, security has been tightened in Batticaloa, military sources said.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and Police conducted body searches of youths and examined the Identity Cards of people passing through the Clock Tower junction and other key junctions in the town.

Additional SLA soldiers and police officers have been deployed to conduct road patrols across the town, sources from Batticaloa said.
