Vadamaradchi youth abducted

Sivapalasingham Saravanan (25), son of Valvettithurai Town Grama Sevaka Officer (village level official), was abducted by a group of unidentified persons who came in a Hi-Ace van and in three motorbikes Saturday evening at Polikandy area in Vadamarachchi division, police said.

People of the area were in shock as the alleged abduction had taken place in an area where SLA has several camps and defence positions, civil sources said.

A group of unidentified persons arrived at the Polikandy play ground Saturday evening and took Saravanan forcibly when he was coaching soccer to boys in the area, according to a complaint made to the police, sources said.

Residents later said the Hi-Ace van was seen for about an hour in the area before the abduction suspiciously moving about in Polikandy area.

Point Pedro Police is investigating into the alleged abduction, sources said.
