‘Development of Vavuniya district sluggish' - Minister

Though a sum of nine hundred million rupees has been allocated for the current year’s development projects in the Vavuniya district, in the first six months of this year, development efforts have been extremely sluggish, conceded the co-director of the committee for the devlopment of the Vavuniya district and Sri Lanka’s Minister for the development of the Vanni, Mr. Noordeen Masoor.

The Minister revealed the information at a meeting held at the Vavuniya district secretariat Thursday to reexamine the development activities in the region.

The Minister co-chaired the meeting with Parliamentarian of the Vanni region, Mr. Raja Kuhaneswaran. The Government Agent for Vavuniya, Mr. K. Ganesh, the LTTE’s head of the political division for Vavuniya, Mr. S. Ezhilan, parliamentarians Messrs. Rizad Badiudeen, N. Sivasakthi Ananthan, The Deputy Chief secretary of the North-East province, Mr. S.Swaminathan, the Commissioner of development for the North-East province, Mr. S. Sundaram, and many departmental heads and senior officials participated at the meeting, sources said.
