Approximately forty contractors have signed up for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts according to information revealed in a recent meeting where the head of the Institute for Construction, Training And Development (ICTAD) participated, Vanni sources said.

Sri Lankan government officials in the two districts said that only those contractors who have signed up with the ICTAD would be eligible to do the rehabilitation and reconstruction work. The officials said that until recently they had several problems in hiring the contractors, but those problems are easing now.

The Government Agent (GA) for Mullaitivu, Ms. Imelda Sukumar, said that more than 20 contractors have signed up with the ICTAD in Mullaitivu so far. The Kilinochchi GA, Mr.T.Rasanayakam, said that out of the 22 contractors signed up for the district, 6 contractors have been qualified for individual contracts of Rs.10 million, and 4 contractors are eligible to take on larger projects, each worth Rs.30 million.
