LTTE denies involvement in Sammanthurai killings

[TamilNet, Monday, 18 August 2003, 12:07 GMT]
Denying any involvement in the killing of two Muslim civilians in Sammanthurai police division in the Ampara district Sunday night, the deputy political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Ampara, Mr.Kuyilan, said, "Elements bent on derailing the peace process could have committed this dastardly act," according to media sources.

Mr.Kuyilan appealed to all to join hands to identify persons who were behind these killing and urged Tamils and Muslims in the Ampara district to continue to live in harmony without giving room for anti-peace elements, media sources said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Tamil agricultural labourers who are engaged in harvesting Yala paddy crops in Sammanthurai Monday started leaving the area to their home villages for security as tension prevails following the killing of Muslims who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen when they were going to their paddy fields in a motorbike, media sources said.
