Eravur police investigates Batticaloa youth's death

Tharmaratnam Vanarajah (25) who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Chenkalady, Batticaloa in November 2002 and kept in Batticaloa prison, died at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital when he was taken there after suddenly falling ill, prison authorities said.

Ex-militant sources said that Vanarajah was earlier a member Peoples Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and later he quit and worked for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He then joined the intelligence section of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and functioning as an informant.

Eravur Police are conducting investigations into his death.
