The Chavakachcheri Magistrate, Mr.B.Balasubramaniam, Tuesday ordered remand for four persons on a report by the Police that they had attacked a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) activist with sword, causing grievous hurt to him, legal sources said.

According to police, a ten-member gang led by one Ranjan had entered the premises of the complainant, Mr.Sinnathamby Sivagnanam, in Varani North of Thenmaradchchi division and attacked him with a sword. On receipt of the complaint, the Kodikamam Police arrested four suspects and produced them before the Chavakachcheri Magistrate at the latter's official residence Tuesday, legal sources said.

The complainant had told the police that it was a revenge attack on him for working for the TNA, legal sources said

The Magistrate ordered an identification parade on Wednesday. The Magistrate further ordered prison officials to keep the four suspects in remand till that date, legal sources said.

Meanwhile, in another election related violence, a Tamil civilian Gopalapillai Ranjithkumar (24) of Kayts was admitted to the Jaffna teaching hospital with severe injuries caused by a group of persons.
