The Financial Division of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam Wednesday announced several measures offering relief to consumers and fishermen in the northeast province. The current 10 percent tax imposed on outboard motor engines and fishing gear brought to Thamileelam has been completely removed as an incentive to the development of the fisheries industry, said Mr. S.Thamilenthi, head of the Financial Division, at a press briefing held Wednesday at the Revenue Secretariat of the LTTE, sources said.

Mr. Maruthan, head of the Thamileelam Revenue Section, Mr.K.Nakeeran, head of the Thamileelam Plantations Division, and Mr.V.Chelian, head of the Thamileelam Price Control Division associated with Mr. Thamilenthi at the press briefing which lasted for about an hour from 3.30 p.m., sources said.

Mr. Thamilenthi further said the price control would be strictly enforced in Thamileelam area with effect from May 15th.

He added that about 4460 acres of coconut plantation now being under the management of the LTTE in the Vanni region would be handed over to representatives of the owners who now live abroad for better maintenance including re-planting, sources said.
