SLA promises rent payment on occupied Valigamam buildings

Sri Lanka Army's (SLA) public liason officier, Mr.S.Sriwardene, in Manipay Jaffna told a Valigamam West co-operative club meeting that the SLA will soon start paying rents for all public building and houses it occupies in Vali West Pradeshya sabha, local media reported Wednesday.

Pradeshya Sabha Secretary, C.A.Mohanadas, presided the meeting. For the first time, Mr. Sriwardene and two other SLA officers participated in the meeting, the report said.

When the participating village officers raised the matter of rent, Mr. Sriwardene replied that the SLA is already paying market rent for the houses it occupies in Araly area and that when they receive proper documentation for the other buildings the SLA will start paying rent for these buildings, according to the report.

The SLA officiers also inquired from the Village officers if there were any complaints by the residents of SLA harassment and other matters.
