Financial support for the boat service is being provided by the UNHCR, reports said. Secretary of Nedunthivu Pradeshya Sabha had previously appealed to the Jaffna Health Commissioner if it would be possible to station the Ambulance boat at the Nedunthivu Jetty. Since the ambulance service is expected to meet the needs of residents of Nainathivu, Analaithivu, Nedunthivu, Eluvaithivu and Punguduthivu, it is necessary to keep the boat in a central location and that is Kurikkadduvan, Dr.Theivendram replied to the the Nedunthivu Secretary. Preparatory work has begun to start the ambulance boat service on schedule and trial runs will be made during the early part of next week, Dr.Theivendram said, according to reports.
