Major General Susil Chandrapala, Jaffna area commander of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), has requested the Human Rights of Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) to take steps to stop students participating in events organized by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in future, sources said.
Major General Chandrapala Monday sent a letter to the Jaffna district office of the HCRSL seeking its assistance in this regard. The SLA's letter followed the participation of students in large numbers on July 5 Black Tigers day held in Nelliyady in Vadamarachchi in Jaffna district where a student band played music during a procession from Nelliayady Madhya Maha Vidiyalayam to the Black Tiger Memorial Hall. Major General Chandrapala had pointed out the Nelliayady event in his letter, sources said. Earlier, the SLA ordered the teachers and students not to participate in events organized by the LTTE during school hours in the Jaffna district.
